Gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus)
Gyrfalcons are the largest species of falcon and have a circumpolar distribution throughout the arctic. Gyrfalcons occur in a variety of color-morphs, general
categorized as white, gray (intermediate), or dark variants. This white variant specimen was collected at Cape Atholl in Greenland on September 4th, 1960.
As consummate predators, gyrfalcons prey on small-medium birds and small mammals, and have been prized birds in falconry hunting for centuries.
